Crop Insurance Highlighted During House Agriculture Subcommittee Hearing

Last week the House Agriculture Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management held a hearing on Crop Insurance, Risk Management and Federal Disaster Programs, “How Farm Policy Helps Farmers in Adverse Conditions.” The hearing included six witnesses discussing the economic hardships and extreme weather conditions farmers and ranchers face and how current farm policies help address those challenges. Rain and Hail Insurance Society President, Michael Davenport, testified on behalf of the American Association of Crop Insurers (AACI). Mike is currently serving as Chairman of AACI.
Mike’s testimony highlighted the unique public-private partnership that allows crop insurance to be flexible, affordable, available and predictable. And as farmers face significant challenges this year, Mike emphasized to the committee that the private crop insurance industry is standing ready to provide timely assistance and “fulfill the promises of the Federal Crop Insurance Program to each and every farmer who purchased a policy.” You can read the witness’ written testimony and watch a replay of the hearing, if you missed it last week. Mike’s oral testimony starts around the 1:04:02 mark.
