The farm bill is still being considered on the floor of the House of Representatives. However, the key vote has been taken. After a very hotly contested debate, the House has defeated, by a vote of 201-225, the Kind amendment to take $1.9 billion each year out of commodity programs to devote to conservation and land retirement programs. There will be other votes, but we can now be sure that the farm bill will pass the House tonight or tomorrow. The Senate will now be under tremendous pressure to act.
