Rain and Hail is closely monitoring actions on proposed farm bill legislation. Recent revisions to budget surplus numbers have brought into question the amount of funds available for a new farm bill. Crop insurance has not been part of proposed legislation discussions to this point due mainly to the recent ARPA changes and also due to the facts that participation in the program is high and farmers are increasing the amount of protection they have in place. Crop Insurance is working and we are confident that it will continue to be the center piece of the farm safety net.
Please stay tuned for any developments that may include the crop insurance program. At some point it may be necessary to ask for your assistance in reminding your Representative and Congressman about the importance of the crop insurance program to America's farmers and rural communities.
